According to the webpage, its purpose was to give developers a way to “Test Microsoft Edge … using free virtual machines ….” As I was about to find out, that did not imply that the VM would offer only limited functionality for other purposes. A “tooltip” was the text in a little bubble that would pop up when I moused over some items.Īt this writing, the only Win10 download at that Microsoft website was one described as “MSEdge on Win10 (圆4) Stable 1809.” The 1809 referred to the autumn (supposedly September, i.e., month 9) 2018 version of Windows 10. Thus Win-R opened the Run dialog, and Win-I opened the Win10 Settings window. “Win” is short for WinKey (i.e., the Windows key, located at the lower left (and sometimes the lower right) of a typical Windows-compatible keyboard). Some commands may require an elevated command prompt (available through e.g., Win-R > cmd > Ctrl-Shift-Enter).
Notes: commands here are written in italics. It would certainly be easier to set up, for a person not familiar with VMs.
